1972 - Three timeline altering events take place. Nixon visits China. Popeyes opens its first location.
And the indie glam pop band, d’Lakes gets a call from the year 2070 to perform at the Jive Live
music festival in Burlington, VT. Having just finished a 13 month tour of Western Europe
and North America opening for psychedelic funk group, The Poppy Hoppers, d’Lakes
knew that some light time travel would be the perfect rejuvenating break after a year on the road.

“It’s a cornucopia of modern pop, but modern pop which has studied, learned from,
and incorporated the music of those that have gone before. More than that, it’s a
fantastic set of songs and a tangible reminder of how creative and sonically highbrow modern pop
can be if only it wanted it enough. Fingers crossed, more than a few of their number take d’Lakes in
general and Heaven Is A Silent Disco in particular, as a challenge and a benchmark to aim for. Game on!"
- Dave Franklin (The Big Take Over)

Their trip to the future was going smoothly until one of the platinum hydrogen converters on their ship burnt out,
stranding them in the 2020’s. Lost and with nothing to do, they turned to what they knew best: absurd partying.
Before even releasing their debut album (Unforgettable Cheer, 2021), the band had already won the Minnesota Music
Coalition’s 2020 Demo Contest, received Prince’s tambourine as a “gift of excellence,” and released a
complicated Halloween EP full of retconned versions of their glam pop tunes (Unforgettable Fear, 2020)! Following the
release of their debut album, it wasn’t long before d’Lakes played many of the local festivals (Big Turn Music Fest,
Lowertown Sounds, Twin Cities Pride, MMC’s Caravan du Nord, Falling Knife, etc) and received a nomination for
album of the year by the Loring Collective. This momentum inspired the group’s work on their sophomore effort,
Heaven Is A Silent Disco (2023). The album was warmly received and was picked up by The Current, MPR, national
publications, and music subreddits, allowing the band to fully immerse themselves in the new decade they’ve
found themselves in.

"Their lyrics gaze at the ceiling—part introspection, part John Hughes-party when your parents leave town,
part trying not to giggle along with the glee-filled tune. The result is a collection of perfectly complementary
samples snipped and assembled to form a compact celebratory listening experience."

Following the celebration of Heaven Is A Silent Disco and subsequent second halloween EP
(Hell Is A Blaring Library, 2024), d’Lakes wanted to take their sound in a slightly different direction.
Finding their funk from Parliament, the freedom in form from The B-52’s, and irresistible lyricism from The Fiery Furnaces,
they’re taking their freak show a step further in the absurd and sensual in a way that provokes a renewed
sense of wonderment. And while they wait for their ship to be fixed, their music might change a bit, but their
inherent drive to bring the party has only been amplified.
